Nick knows that Lance will be watching the AMAs, and it amuses the fuck out
of him to imagine the look on Lance's face when he sees Nick for the first
time. Kevin already poked him once and told him to stop looking so damned
smug, but Nick just shook him off. He can't help it. Pushing Lance's
buttons is one of his favorite past times, and this is one of the easiest.
See, Lance can be completely cavalier about leaving his possessions behind in hotel rooms and dressing rooms, on the bus or wherever. But it gets right up his nose for somebody to *take* something that's his, especially if that somebody is outside the sacred circle of five. Even if that somebody fucks him on a reasonably regular basis, as Nick does. And when Nick walks out on stage to present and pimp out Krystal, and Lance sees him wearing the shades he stole out of Lance's SUV, his eyes are going to go wide and he'll turn to Joey or whoever he's with--probably Joey, though--and he'll growl "That fucker. Those are *mine*." Nick suppresses a shiver at that thought, wishing he could be there. Lance is well known for his porn voice under normal circumstances, but get him pissed off and it becomes ten times hotter, all tight and controlled.
Nick smirks at a photographer as he thinks how wasted Lance's increased hotness will be on Joey. He knows that Lance will be pissy with him when Nick calls him later, after the show and the parties. Maybe he'll call *during* a party so that Lance can hear all the fun he's missing. Everyone knows how much Lance loves the parties, and it's true. He could have come. Nick had certainly wanted him to. But he had something else to do, some stupid commitment that he could have gotten out of if he wasn't so damned conscientious about that kind of crap. Nick also suspected that his recent brush with the law had been a factor in Lance's refusal to even think about trying to work out a way to come to LA. So Nick would mess with him a little from thousands of miles away, provoke him into trying to punish Nick for pushing his buttons.
As much as Nick likes pushing Lance's buttons, he likes being punished for it even more. Sometimes Nick thinks Lance is on to him, but he always gives Nick the reactions he wants, so if he is it doesn't matter. Not to Nick anyway.
